This piece by John Delury in FP unmasks the US policy of strategic patience towards North Korea as ineffective - because it is based on false assumptions: North Korea is a fragmented yet resilient authoritarian state. It is not on the brink of collapse. While a more pragmatic policy that empowers moderates and eases the plight of ordinary North Koreans is obviously more flexible than the present embargo, a Sunshine Policy has failed before. I am not sure a Cuban open door policy can work in a nuclearized country with a history of reneging on contractual obligations. What to do?
