This semester I will be starting up a group at Rhodes for noPEnuke. We will be educating students and community members about the dangers of the Nuclear Power Plant planned to be built in Thyspunt (between PE and Jbay). This is a very real danger to the surrounding towns and environment, and almost an impossibly expensive project. Not only will it set the government back billions, it also will affect (if not destroy) marine life and the beaches along the eastern capes coastline. Another very real (and harsh) fact is that, if there is a meltdown of this station at any point, there is NO realistic evacuation plan. Roads would become gridlocked, people in Jbay would have 20 MINUTES to evacuate, people in PE, a mere 4hours to get out of town. The Government is trying incredibly hard to push the building of this station, despite the way it will destroy the coastline and endanger the lives of those living in surrounding towns (not only if there is a meltdown, but on going pollution as well) If you are interested in getting involved with this group, to volunteer your time, to help with publicity or to simply invite your friends to like the page, to educate others and to help save lives (plant,animal and human), please inbox me.
