This week I will be completing the last 2 glazing commissions on my books. HOORAY for no work pressure. Funny, because early last year I wrote a blog post about how 2013 was going to be the year of me and I wasnt going to take any glazing commissions. HA HA, so much for that. Thing is, I do like having _some_ work ordered by others in here, or else Id just procrastinate and do practically nothing!! (In retirement, work ethic is woefully bad.) Plus I get ideas from clients on colors I might not have had, which is good for challenge and growth. Glazing work also pays for projects like molding and casting sculptures. New sculpture is future business so I have to keep that pipeline going! That said, I have to be very careful how much work-for-hire I commit to. Too much, and it stifles productivity in a weird way: If Im not in the mood to glaze commissions, then I feel guilty about not doing it and I dont work on anything else because that makes me feel even more guilty. This is a stupid mental quirk Ive struggled with for years! So my goal for the new year is to stay mindful that it is OK to give myself permission to work on whatEVER Im in the mood for (being a generally moody artist, lol) on any given day. Because it is all good for productivity and feeding the artistic soul which demands I create! Ill be selective about how much outside work I accept while I figure out what the perfect amount is!
