This weekend, the hacktivist group Anonymous has struck the Israeli government harder than before. Last week, #OpGazaCounterHack targeted Israeli government websites in an effort to strike back at the closure of Anonymous social media accounts that had been spreading reports out of Gaza on Israeli strikes. This week, Anonymous hit back even harder, in what they have termed #OpHasbaraTrolls. The term Hasbara is a Hebrew word meaning “explaining,” but it refers specifically to public relations propaganda efforts to spread positive information about the State of Israel. Since #OpGazaCounterHack last week, Anonymous social media accounts and groups have been inundated with “Hasbara trolls” according to the hacktivists involved in today’s cyber attacks. Some of the Israeli government websites hit today include the following: ocs.moital.gov.il – Ministry of Industry and Trade pwd.gov.il – Public Works Department sep.gov.il – Israel Economic and Tourism gov.il – gov.il domains tahila.gov.il – Israel Government ISP embassies.gov.il – Embassy of Israel to the United States ejobs.gov.il – Merkava – ministry of Finance dover.idf.il – Israeli Defense Forces telaviv.police.gov.il – Israel Police Department defence.gov.il – Ministry of Defense ecom1.gov.il – Ministry of Finance emus.gov.il – Economic Mission U.S. first.gov.il – State of Israel – eGovernment galil.gov.il – Galil Development Authority hosting.co.il – Domain Internet Ltd. ifts.gov.il – Integrated Foreign Trade System iiop.gov.il – Israel Institute of Productivity immigration.gov.il – Israeli Immigration index.gov.il – Office of the Prime Minister int.gov.il – State of Israel Mail israel.gov.il – The Government of Israel israel-mfa.gov.il – Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs itpolicy.gov.il – Israel Information Technology mfah.gov.il – Ministry of Foreign Affairs mofa.gov.il – Foreign Affairs Ministry aa.gov.il/ – The Israeli Antitrust Authority cert.gov.il/ – Israeli Government CERT dev.cbs.gov.il/ – Shifra Har idf.gov.il – IDF – Israel Defense Forces israbank.gov.il – Bank of Israel israel-info.gov.il/ – Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs lapam.gov.il – Israel Government Printing Office mohr.gov.il/ – State of Israel-Ministry of Finance mrc.gov.il – Ministry of Regional Cooperation nativ.gov.il/ – Nativ Project – PMO nioi.gov.il – National Insurance of Israel nisa.gov.il/ – Ministry of Finance 1 Kaplan Street ocs.moital.gov.il – Ministry of Industry and Trade In addition to these and many others, Anonymous also took an Israel bank down but it has since been brought back online: fibi.co.il: 1039684_10204121822219478_735512502874472308_o There were many more, but these seemed to be the hardest hit, and stayed down the longest.
