Thought for today, Friday, 07-11-14 by Pastor Dennis Young Psalm 147:11 The Lord taketh pleasure IN THEM that fear him, IN THOSE that hope in his mercy. (My emphasis) In our humanity it is easy to underestimate the necessity and the power of Gods mercy. Many are of the opinion that mankind deserves the goodness of God simply because He made us and therefore bestows His goodness on us. Yet the Scriptures plainly state that all of humanity are in great need of the mercy of God. Mercy is the fact that God does not give us what we deserve, but chooses to bestow His grace instead. For this reason, the Psalmist declares, that the Lord takes pleasure in those that understand we are not deserving of His goodness. Therefore we will praise Him for His goodness, mercy and grace and not allow our human pride to cause us to think we are worthy of His grace.
