Thought of the evening, Part II: This is some embarrassing shit...I would say that I was shocked, but the response by black folks is what I expected once this dude got in office...and I have nothing but the utmost respect for Glen Ford, but he is incorrect in his assessment in believing that black folks have always been progressive in our ideals and we are now going against them because of Barry...No, his initial statement is true that the black collective has been a much more shallow political and social consciousness that was revolutionary most times in our own mind... Although I grew up hood, I will accept the fact that I am unlike most of the cats in my community in Lynwood, CA back in the 1970s and 1980s...not to say better or worse, just different...the same way my old man was much more unusual than anyone elses father I knew growing up in my neighborhood...but since my difference, I guess you would say for lack of a better term, has never been founded in a need to detach myself from the black community, then I can say unequivocally that I can have a fairly unbiased analysis of the situation, although I am always willing to be taken to task on anything I say...Regarding my formative years in the black community it is quite the contrary concerning any detachment on my part to it, since it was the black community that has always detached itself from me to a great degree...As a result of this and my understanding that blackness has always been hated within the normative non-black communities domestically and abroad, I have never been one to surround myself with any other ethnicity to a great degree either...I do better at the individual level in dealing with folks than identifying with any collective based on an ethnic heritage...Still, I speak for and to the historical black disenfranchisement that begat my father and the pain and turmoil he went through each and everyday of his existence trying to be a self-defining black man in a white male supremacist society...I make no bones about it... Since this is the case, I really only hold an allegiance to a mindset and an ideology based off a set of principles and ideals which supersedes my loyalty even to my father and mother as physical beings with frailties, foibles and weaknesses just like myself...Hence, based upon those ideals and understanding of the world, I can say without hesitation that the black mindset has ALWAYS been transfixed on ACCEPTANCE into what is deemed socially correct and that extends from the lowest rungs of black Amerikkka all the way to the most bourgeoisie, milquetoast of Negroes at the highest levels of the vacuous upper class....Therefore, it hasnt taken much for that gangster you see on your street corner to get a little bit of that Blindside love from white Amerikkka in order to turn from the angriest person on Earth to a lapdog who will defend white privilege and his or her ersatz version of it while residing in the confines of white acceptance...A look at the past and current lives of Ice Cube, Ice-T, LL Cool J and Jay-Z is enough to prove my point...the fact these gangsters function better within the most extreme confines of white male supremacy than yours truly who is as FAR from a gangster as you can get, is all you need to know... And this was PRE-BARRY...so, we must ask ourselves what has been the foundation of black resistance here in Amerikkka: to reform it, destroy it or integrate into it by assimilation?....well, it has been a combination, consisting of reformation of it by integration through assimilation...it sure as shit has never been to destroy Amerikkka...debating whether or not this destruction should have taken place is a waste of time since anyone with a brain in their head can see what 400 years of Western domination now being spearheaded by Amerikkka has done to the world.... All you have to do is look at the long lineage of the mainstream black people to throw the most extreme (truthful) aspects of black consciousness under the bus to see how this has been part and parcel to black existence and much of the so-called resistance... This is why Paul Robeson has never been given his just due in this country by the black community...This is why W.E.B. Dubois and his change from the NAACP to staunch Pan-Africanist in his later years was seen as an embarrassment to the civil rights movement and an impediment into the plan of integration by assimilation by the black leaders in Amerikkka...It is why the black community has never sang the praises to ANY DEGREE of a Robert F. Williams, who believed in armed resistance and debated the vaunted MLK Jr. in print over this fact...It is why MLK himself started to get blowback from black folks and the black establishment when he became much more vitriolic in his rhetoric towards Amerikkka at the end of his life...It is why you have ALWAYS had the greater majority of black folks in Amerikkka who couldnt align in ANY WAY with the Black Panther Party or any militant action whatsoever and made a point of always reminding black folks that they were different than those other ones...It is why black folks have ALWAYS stood silent when good Negroes WAY BEFORE BARRY castigated what was deemed the embarrassing black folks in the world to white folks, which ranged from the easiest target of the stereotypical low level criminal all the way to the aforementioned Black Panther Party, since they had to do it in order to make it in the white world... And that is just the short list...we dont even want to talk about how black folks have always REVERED the worst aspects of black militarism, like the Buffalo Soldiers who cleared the plains for the continued westward expansion of white male supremacy...hell, as a personal aside, my own maternal uncle has an homage to these cats all through his house and he is the typical black man who grew up in the South and considers himself as pro-black as can be with a black wife, graduated from an HBCU, membership in a historically black fraternity and has always worn his exclusivity to the black bourgeoisie lifestyle based upon a CHRISTIAN ethic as a badge of honor...and to be honest, he is pretty much indicative of most black folks I have known in this world who have just wanted black faces in high places as the remedy to ALL that is wrong in Amerikkka... so the foremost thing amongst black folks politically was to just disagree with white folks, but not do any in depth analysis concerning resource accumulation and the damage that is done the world over for these resources...Just like the normative white person, most black folks feel that this lifestyle is a sign of favor from god and consider it their birthright also, regardless of how many black and brown people are killed in the process a world away...the cultural necessity to go against any type of overwhelming white support for a policy is what drove our ideology at a foundation, but it was founded JUST UPON PHENOTYPICAL BASIS AND NOT ANY SOCIAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL, ECONOMIC OR SYSTEMIC CONTEXT AND ANALYSIS...This preoccupation with JUST phenotype has ALWAYS hindered us psychologically from understanding that white male supremacy and its implementation runs much deeper than just white faces in high places with the supposition that everything else is okay... This is tragic, but more than anything else, it is indicative of how the black mindset has tragically been formulated by white male supremacy and most dont allow themselves to think outside of this paradigm, even if it is in response to it...we must think independent of this dynamic, the same way that women must think outside the parameters of what misogyny has placed in their psyche to understand things in a much fuller way... I have no hope that this is going to happen, but at this late in the game when we are in the seventh inning stretch and down by about 150 runs, a little truth cant hurt... FP Excerpt: In yet another example of African American moral and political deterioration in the Age of Obama, a new Pew Research poll shows Blacks are more in favor of NSA spying on Americans than are whites or Hispanics. Moreover, the data indicate that Blacks are probably more likely to favor prosecution of Edward Snowden for his NSA spying revelations, than are other ethnic groups. Back in September, polling history was made when Black Americans were more in favor of air strikes against Syria than whites and Hispanics – the first time, ever, that African Americans were ranked as the most bellicose major ethnicity in the United States. Something ugly has happened to Black America since 2008, eroding – if not reversing – the progressive Black historical consensus on issues of peace, civil liberties and social justice that has prevailed since pollsters began soliciting Black opinion. One must conclude that, either Black progressivism was a much shallower political current than previously believed, or that the presence of a Black president has been such a shock to Black consciousness, so profoundly disorienting, that it has grievously distorted collective Black perceptions of reality. The African American worldview has been mangled beyond imagining. Forty percent of Blacks told a Washington Post/ABC poll, in late August and early September, that they supported President Obama’s threatened airstrikes on Syria. Although majorities of Blacks (56 percent), whites (58 percent) and Hispanics (63 percent) opposed Obama’s air war, African Americans were the most supportive of war – the first time that has ever happened. Given that Blacks were far more pro-peace than either whites or Hispanics in the pre-Obama era, the conclusion is inescapable: substantial proportions of Black Americans are now more concerned with defending Obama than with preventing the death of thousands of innocents abroad, at U.S. hands. In siding with the NSA’s spies, Blacks have shown they are prepared to sacrifice their own civil liberties in order to safeguard the prestige of the icon in the White House. If an individual exhibited such lifelong personality and values reversals, her relatives and friends would immediately suspect an emotional breakdown, and seek professional help. Caregivers would try to identify the cause of the mental collapse, and find ways to avoid further harm. Actually, a diagnosis of collective African American mental illness, brought on by the sudden and unexpected advent of a nominally Black president, is the kindest analysis available. The alternative diagnosis is that Black folks were always closet reactionaries, who were just waiting for the emergence of a Black chief executive to show their true colors. I’ll go with sudden onslaught of collective mental illness.
