Thoughts on Luke 8 Luke 8:43-44 KJVS And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, [44] Came behind him , and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. Are you sick? How bad is it? How long have you been struggling? What have the doctors said? Is it getting any better? Luke here has a story that helps us to understand the relationship between our sicknesses and our faith in Jesus. 1. The lady had been sick for 12 years. Any amount of time you spend with a disease is time lost. You cannot eat this or go there or do this. Think of the amount of happiness you lose and the pain you feel. 12 years is plenty of suffering. 2. She had spent all she had paying helpless doctors. First, we see how serious this woman desired to get help. But sometimes desire and commitment are not enough. Secondly she had two problems: the disease and poverty. Sickness can destroy lives. 3. Learned doctors were clueless. This reminds me of HIV and Ebola. We have many science advancements. But they are useless to some sick people. Huntingtons disease can destroy a person while family, friends and doctors all helplessly watch. Cancer! 4. The woman had faith. Clearly, she invented the hem method of healing: she had never seen anyone else being healed by Jesus garment. Many had been touched or healed by Word. But this woman sought an unusual method of her own making. Her faith was on in the hem: she saw the Glory of the One wearing the garment and that was enough to convince her. What she struggled with in 12 years Jesus banished in a split second! What faith and what power! 5. Have faith in God. My friend, it does not matter what you suffer from. Give yourself a chance to recover. Believe in the God who made you. The Great Physician has always been near! Hear the voice of Jesus.
