Three Airmen Missing — Feared Drowned — After Typhoon Hits Okinawa TheBlaze Oct. 5, 2014 9:07am Zach Noble Three members of the U.S. Air Force are missing in Okinawa, Japan, after they were swept away by high waves after Typhoon Phanfone slammed the island Sunday, NBC News reported. The trio is feared to have drowned. The Air Force personnel were washed out to sea, NBC reported, from the northeast shore of Okinawa around 3:45 p.m. local time. The local coast guard reportedly found one body two hours later (around 5 a.m. EDT), but the U.S. military did not immediately confirm whether the body was that of an airman. The incident occurred after the eye of the typhoon had passed through Okinawa, home to the American Kadena Air Base.
