Three local arts organizations are partnering to bring a revolutionary improvisational orchestral ensemble to Hartford. The Hartford Jazz Society, the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, and Real Art Ways will present the Go Organic Orchestra on Friday, October 11. Approximately 35 renowned instrumentalists will join composer and conductor Adam Rudolf on the historic stage of the Wadsworth’s Aetna Theater for an unprecedented experience celebrating improvised music and the convergence of contemporary classical, jazz, and global traditions. “The Go Organic Orchestra is an amorphous group of anywhere between 20 and 50 musicians that can be assembled to perform anywhere, at any time. Composer and conductor Adam Rudolph, himself a respected percussionist deeply rooted in the origins of “World Music,” provides skeletal scores and minimal direction to encourage improvised musical dialogue between the musicians. “I seek to generate unusual relationships of sound against sound, form against form, and rhythm against rhythm in a non-linear, ever shifting kaleidoscope of music images,” writes Rudolph. His unusual scores provide the musicians with inspiration and context, and his untraditional conducting style allows them the freedom to express themselves in the moment. Event Schedule: 5-6 pm: Free Student workshop conducted by Adam Rudolph, with area music students. 7:00 pm: Student ensemble performance (group TBA) 8:00 pm: Go Organic Orchestra Tickets: Members of the Wadsworth Atheneum, Real Art Ways, or the Hartford Jazz Society: $15 in advance, $20 day of show. Non-members: $20 in advance, $25 day of show. Student tickets are $10. To purchase tickets please call the Wadsworth Atheneum at (860) 838-4100 Wed. – Sun. during normal business hours or visit thewadsworth.org. Financial support for this concert is provided by The Ensworth Charitable Foundation, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee, the Edward C. and Ann T. Roberts Foundation and the Greater Hartford Arts Council.
