Thursday, 19th September PRACTISE LOVE “…God has given us the Holy Spirit, who fills our hearts with his love” (Romans 5:5 CEV) The Bible tells us that the love of God is already shed abroad in our hearts (Rom. 5:5), but you still have to exercise yourself in it. I’m yet to meet a man or woman who doesn’t want to be loved. But how many are willing to show the same love they crave so much? God was motivated by His love for mankind to give up His Son for our sakes (Jn. 3:16). In the same vein, love must be your motivation in anything you do. You cannot impact your world for Jesus or do anything of significance for Him without love. The love of God will motivate you to preach the gospel anywhere you are, just as Philip preached to the Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8:28-39). You wouldn’t just be able to keep quiet about your faith. The reason some Christians live and work amidst unbelievers with no desire to see them won to Christ is that they’ve not exercised themselves in God’s love. We are instructed in the Word to love our brothers and sisters in the Lord. If you don’t love them, then you cannot say you love God, because God lives inside them (1 Jn. 4:20). In Galatians 6:10, Paul admonished us to “…do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” “Every little act of love or kindness you show to your brother or sister in the Lord has great reward, for you’re actually doing it unto the Lord” (Matt. 25:40). Finally, love is the antidote to fear. The Bible says, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love” (1 Jn. 4:18). Make a quality decision to walk in love and to sow seeds of love in the lives of all that you come in contact with daily. Prayer: Mighty Father, I worship and adore you for this precious truth. Thank you for your love that won me over and is now shed abroad in my heart. Indeed, the love of Christ constrains me and my actions are love motivated. As I walk in love and sow seeds of love to others, I receive a bountiful harvest of love in Jesus Name. Amen.
