Dr. Don Huber, professor emeritus, Purdue University, cc: Dr. Anthony Samsel, independent scientist and biochemist that has studied Glyphosate Attn. Ms Tracey Glynn Good day I write to you in response to your article calling for a ban on forest herbicides in New Brunswick. We share a common interest, and we may be able to help each other. I am a retired engineer and a food security and sovereignty activist, citizen journalist and nature lover, that was born in India, lived all over the world, and have been living in Canada for the past dozen years. One of my hobbies is to speak with relevant scientists, research scholars, policy analysts, politicians, activists and such, on the topic of food security, GMO, and the harms some herbicides such as Glyphosate is doing to this planet. I also record many such talks/ interview for creating audio podcasts for general awareness of public. I include two such podcasts below : A talk with Dr. Stephanie Seneff of MIT about Glyphosate’s destructive capabilities. tonu.org/2014/04/19/stephanie-seneff/ A talk with Dr. Don Huber, Microbiologist and Plant Pathologist, who has spend half a century studying the behaviour of Glyphosate and similar herbicides. tonu.org/2014/04/15/don_hube/ I have also spoken with Dr. Anthony Samsel, & the audio is soon to be edited and put as a podcast. I also interview people face to face - and shall include one link where I spoke with Dr. Thierry Vrain, a Canadian scientist and outspoken critic of GMO and herbicide - tonu.org/2013/05/01/thierry-vrain-at-innisfree-farm/ A Speaking Event at Fredericton on May 2 Dr. Vrain along with me are coming to a talk tour of the maritime provinces in the next few days, to talk to people about the dangers of GMO and pesticides and the need for pushing back at the relentless release of these chemicals and organisms on our environment without any meaningful safety checks. IN this regard, we would invite you and all your colleagues to consider attending the talk show. It is at : St. Marys Anglican Church 780 McEvoy Street Fredericton, NB E3A 3B7 Friday, May 2nd, 2014 7:00PM-9:00PM Host: NB Community Harvest Gardens Inc. nbchg.org [email protected] Glyphosate & other Herbicides There is another reason for my letter and that is to do with application of Glyphosate in forestry and its possible link not just with disappearance of wildlife, but also with possible rise of serious diseases in humans. I have been told by some locals in both PEI and Nova Scotia that they consider those two provinces to be the Cancer Capital of Canada, and that New Brunswick might be following close behind. I actually spoke with the regional director of Canadian Cancer Society in PEI, Ms Lori Barker, and sent her an email, asking more details, and if Glyphosate exposure could be a reason. PEI is reported to have large scale farming of a potato mono-culture with heavy use of Glyphosate and other herbicides/fungicides and is rumoured to be having a lot of illnesses not just cancer, and also among younger people. Some ex-mayors of Nova Scotia told me the same thing, that the last sixty funerals she attended in her town, over fifty where death due cancer. What puzzled me at first is that the situation in NS and PEI are not same. There is heavy agriculture in PEI and heavy forestry in NS. Then I found out, large scale application of Glyphosate or its sister products are a common practice for the logging companies. Health officials try to pooh pooh any cause for concern and do not get engaged in any serious investigation of contamination of food and water by these herbicides or presence of Glyphosate in human urine, blood or breast milk. IN this regard, we have also been in touch wish scientists such as Anthony Samsel and Stephanie Seneff who know about labs in the US that can test urine etc for Glyphosate. They are looking into possibility of the US lab also testing urine or blood /milk samples for Canadians. The reported cost of the test is around US$ 100. We are also on the lookout for Canadian labs that can conduct these tests. The organisation MAA (Mothers across America) had already worked with these scientists recently and energized many in the US to get their own samples tested for presence of Glyphosate. The results shocked some people since mothers that were not careful of their food habits turned out to have Glyphosate even in their breast milk. We are trying to encourage people in Canada to also carry out such tests, the results of which might coax the Government to take this matter seriously. We are not an organization as such, but just two individuals that speak to people at no charge, because of common concern about the future health of the people of this nation. I write to you in case we can find ways to join hands and take this issue a step further. Regarding New Brunswick, I wonder if there is a way to get data from the official sources that would indicate: year upon year use of Glyphosate and other pesticide herbicide in NB Year upon year reported cases of cancer, autism, celiac, leaky guts, obesity, diabetes Crone etc. For reference, I include copy of a letter I recently sent to the Agriculture Minister of PEI, copied to the Health Minister of PEI and the director of Canadian Cancer Society, PEI. Appreciate any feedback We are leaving Vancouver on wednesday on our trip to the Maritime Provinces. Thanking you with best regards Tony Mitra 10891 Cherry Lane, Delta, BC V4E 3L7 Canada 604-649 7535 Link to the letter sent to the ministers of PEI : LInk to the letter sent to the Ministers in PEI : tonu.org/2014/04/18/ministerpei/
