To commemorate Veterans Week, the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame (NBSHF) is hosting a free public talk exploring the origins of the Royal Canadian Legion Track and Field Program. Presented by Hon. Member LeRoy Washburn, the talk will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the NBSHF, 503 Queen St., Fredericton. The Royal Canadian Legion Track and Field program is a nation-wide athletics program that culminates in an annual national championship for Canadian youth between the ages of 13 and 17. Olympic official, prolific coach and tireless sport builder, LeRoy Washburn has been involved with the Legion Track and Field Program since the 1950s and has served as the programs Technical Advisor for over 20 years. LeRoy Washburn is the former Director of Athletics at Saint Thomas University. The NBSHF will also be launching Remembrance: New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame Heroes, a brand new exhibit honouring the athletes and sport builders of the Sports Hall of Fame who served and serve in the Canadian military.
