To my Syrian revolutionary friends going on about the coup who just dont fully get it: I pose this hypothetical: if you could go back to March of 2011, and assuming Asad had not responded to your initial protests with missiles (the insane thug) but with sporadic police action (brutal and unjust to be sure, but not a clear declaration of war), would you have taken the chance to work with the current balance, advocate reform and save Syria from destruction? You would if you love Syria and take the long view. Bas khalas. Please keep this in mind before making an ill considered statement about fascism.
