Today, Avonte was laid to rest. We said our final good-byes; first at the funeral home and again following a church service. At the family gathering that followed, Avontes Mom, Vanessa, insisted that it be not a time to mourn but a time to celebrate the life of her son. What an amazing woman. She has been through so much pain and suffering, realized that so many others have as well and wanted only that everyone remember the beauty of Avonte while he was here; not the tragedy that led to the gathering. Now, measures will be taken so that Avonte did not die in vain. Laws will be introduced and passed, procedures changed and new policies will be put in place. All in the hope that no other child will go through what Avonte did. Expect announcements very very soon. Its such a shame that an innocent, beautiful non-verbal young man had to give his life before some people would listen to him. Rest with your fellow Angels now. You will be forever loved.
