Today I challenged my opponents to oppose the food tax being proposed. The food tax threatens working families. This week, the New Mexico Municipal League announced it will ask the state legislature to act on the issue at next year’s session. I am asking my Mayoral opponents to join with me in opposing this tax and removing this threat to working families. Here is my statement: I oppose the food tax because it’s a regressive tax. It punishes Santa Fe families who are struggling the most to provide for their children and families. We as a community need to focus on developing high wage jobs to grow our economy, right here in the city we all love. This is an issue we can’t be silent on. Every candidate who hopes to lead this city as Mayor needs to speak out. I hope you will join with me.
