Today I found out I wont be receiving the last chunk of money I made at school until a further date. This was a make-or-break check for me regarding my independent ability to go to New Yorks Peoples Climate March. It would have meant that I would be going to the march with a little cushion, and by no means in leisure, and now I would have to risk it. I have decided I to go anyway. International studies has taken me out of my home country to look through a literary magnifying glass across the world. I have seen the destruction of what gives us air in name of profitable pipelines. I have seen islands go under water. I have seen the displacement of peoples and community ownership outlawed. I have seen the brainwashing, cultural destruction, mass suicide and cancer used to keep more lined up and the rest brushed under the rug. The systems used to create and sustain the dream of the modern world have destroyed families and environment across the Global South in past and present. They show no allegiance and they are not patriotic. And now they are showing themselves to us and our future. I refuse to just sit and read. I want to live in a world that values the earth we walk on no matter the profitability, the people we live with no matter the creed or color, and the blessing of life we have no matter how finite. So I march for my family, my friends, and my future. Like this status and I will add you in spirit to the dress I will wear in the march through a solidarity ribbon, for free!
