Today I learned about Sketch Pad, the first ever vector drawing app & the ancestor of modern CAD apps. The GUI is revolutionary for its time, with the user drawing shapes with a light pen on a screen. It even supports some rudimentary 3D and is able to infer relationships between the shapes to aid drawing. And all that in as early as 1963!!! Yes, you read that right, NINETEEN SIXTY THREE!! O_o Mind = blown It was developed by Ivan Sutherland as part of his PhD thesis at MIT Lincoln Labs. 25 years later, in 1988, he received a Turing Award for his HCI breakthrough (Turing Award = the Nobel Prize of Computer Science) Watch the whole video — it’s worth it.
