Today I moved my running up a level, in more ways than one, and I could not have done it without the support of KHRC! This mornings running started with park run, which I had not intended to do as I was going to do the KHRC Half training, but Michael Green had set me the target of going sub-30min at park run, and so I simply had to go and decided I would try and do both park run and half training. Ian Mackenzie offered to help pace me round park run in order to go for a pb, anything under 30 at park run would have been great, but sub-29 was the real target. We started near the front and set off quick, with first mile coming in at 8m17s, but I felt good so we kept the pace on. The second mile started to take its toll but still felt good and rolled round in 8m50s. I always have preferred the mile 3 of this course and so managed a 8m46s and with a big effort of a sprint finish completed a massive PB of 26m52s and placed 135th! Quick convenience break, time scanned, and off Ian and I went again, this time heading up out of Cannon Hill and up Holders Lane towards Kings Heath Park to meet up with the KHRC Half marathon training group for a gentle 5 miles. I had underestimated how far it was from the park run finish to Kings heath park, but no bother as I was still feeling good. 1.86miles at an average pace of 10:47min/miles. Few minutes break at the park and we all set off to do our 5 mile run. Was a lovely route that I am sure i will use again. 5miles at 11:29min/mile pace. Coming towards the end of the 5 mile route I suggested, as I had to run back to the car down at Cannon Hill, that I might make up the total distance to a full half marathon, and of course once I had said it I couldnt let myself not. So once back at Kings Heath Park quickly set back off again with Ian down Avenue Road and up through Highbury Park, at which point Ian and I went our separate ways and I carried on down Queensbridge Road Cannon Hill park and a few loops in the park to take that route up to 3.15miles at an average pace of 10:42min/mile. So the totals: Distance 13.11miles Moving time 2hr18mins Elapsed time 2hr40mins Whichever way I look at that, its a half marathon distance PB, previous being edingburgh in 2hr54mins. The difference being, I can walk still! Thank you everyone, I could not have made these improvements without you, and I am now massively looking forward to smashing last years time at Birmingham Half!
