Today I realized that I have been in the dark for quite some time - TopicsExpress

Today I realized that I have been in the dark for quite some time in regards to military elitism and stolen valor. I am told that it is just ‘friendly jokes’ between branches of the armed forces. Being of Air Force experience, I have heard my share of jokes about “flying a desk” and being a member of the “chair force”. I was not aware that unless you were an 11B Marine that you didn’t actually serve your country. Apparently everyone in the military is a POG, cook, or useless stateside mechanic. If you aren’t issued a duty weapon and sleep in the dirt under enemy fire you didn’t serve your country as a ‘real man’. I am told that not even the EOD guys get any love as they are just worker bee’s that mill around inside FOB’s. I guess having a childhood friend that became an e4 just before losing both his legs to in IED in Kandahar further skews my opinion on these comments. I never knew there was so much internal competition between greenhorns fresh out of boot to down people that weren’t frontline personnel, but then the only time I’ve been outside the country was to Canada a few times and the only flight deck I ever stood on was a KC-135.
