Today I watched American Hustle, with Christian Bale in another one of his nigh insane physical transformations for a role. This movie features an impressive cast: besides the aforementioned Bale, we have Jeremy Renner, doing an impressive New Jersey accent(he is actually British,) Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, and Bradley Cooper. As the movie takes place in the late 1970s, we have the obligatory disco scene, plus the snorting of cocaine, all set to music I heard in high school. I also watching Saving Mr.Banks, starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. Emma Thompsons portrayal of P.L.Travers(of Mary Poppins fame,) is almost cartoonishly British. Apparently, the women have stiff upper lips as well. Tom Hanks is good as Walt Disney, but since this movie was made by Disney, it borders on a hagiography in places. I will not deny that Walt Disney was a great man, but he was far from perfect. Having said that, I will take this time to state that there is no credible evidence that he was an Anitsemite.
