Today, November 5th is the official start of Remembrance Week. The following is a poem submitted by Kim Robin. “A Soldiers Tears” A young man filled with expectations with the sparkle in his eyes goes to war. He fights with pride for his country. Shivering at the coldness and hunger in a dug out awaiting his sergeants command ~ he is terrified & shakes with fear at the prospect of what is to come is replaced by the adrenaline that rushes through his body & the training he learned so well kicks into action. Fellow soldiers who became his friends die or are maimed in front of his naïve innocent eyes ~ his pride of his mission & what is to be saved overcomes his sadness, he sheds no tears for the fallen but inside they drench his soul. When he returns home it is to a soldiers welcome decorated & congratulated on a job well done. He joins the others to give respect to those who did not return ~ the unmarked graves of those who gave us the freedom & luxury of what we have today ~ He stands apart back from the crowd & silently prays for his fellow comrades & those that have been lost. He softly whispers “Lest We Forget My Friend” the memories of what you have given will be instilled in my heart forever unleashing his unshed tears into uncontrollable sobs. He salutes, slowly walks away, he then pauses, he turns ever so slightly, he looks back filled with the realization of why we take the time on this special day that we have named “Remembrance Day” Written by Kim Robin ~ November 5, 2010
