Today in 2009 Delain released the album April Rain Zwolle, Overijssel,Netherlands Melodic/Symphonic Metal Status:Active Years active: 2002-present Delain is a symphonic metal band, formed in Zwolle, Netherlands in 2002. The band currently consists of Charlotte Wessels (vocals), Timo Somers (guitars), Otto Schimmelpenninck van der Oije (bass), Martijn Westerholt (keyboards), and Sander Zoer (drums). Delain was founded by Martijn Westerholt who was previously the pianist of Within Temptation as well as being the brother of Robert Westerholt, one the bands founders. He left Within Temptation in 2001 after contracting Pfeiffers disease. He started Delain in 2002. The band released a demo entitled Amenity in 2002. The band started recording their debut album Lucidity in July 2005, after they had signed a contract with Roadrunner Records. At the end of 2007 Delain stated that they intend to release a second album in 2008, so far, the band has begun playing two new songs live: Stay Forever & Start Swimming. In November 2008, it was announced that the new album April Rain would be released on February 9th, 2009. Also they played a new song on Dutch television called Ill Reach You. In 2009, April Rain was delayed until March 2009, while the single is still to be released in February. April Rain is the second full-length album by the Dutch symphonic metal band, Delain. It was released in the Benelux on March 20, 2009 and was released internationally on March 30, 2009 by Roadrunner Records. It was released in Australia on April 10, 2009. Martijn Westerholt, founder of Delain, originally did not intend Delain to be a live band. But after the success of debut album Lucidity a live band was created. With this band, the album April Rain was recorded. Demo versions of Stay Forever and Start Swimming were already played live by Delain in 2007 and 2008. In November 2008, a version of the song Ill Reach You with alternate lyrics was performed live on a Dutch TV show to get attention for UNICEF & BTs Inspiring Young Minds charity. The original release date for the album was February 9, 2009, but in January it was announced that the release was postponed to coincide with foreign release dates. In February 2009, April Rain was revealed to be the first single from this album when it became available for purchase online. On March 13, 2009, the Dutch website of Roadrunner Records put the entire album up for streaming, only available to residents of the Netherlands.
