Today is my final day in Toronto. It seems pretty crazy that I came here three years ago with no idea what the city would bring, knowing no one and using the CN Tower as my only geographical point of reference. Since, I’ve truly learned to love this city no only because of its sheer variety and embracing of culture, but because of the great people it has allowed me to meet. Emma Burns, Kathryn Binnersley, Jelena Ćirić, Briar Knowles, Eric Regimbald, Alex Theodora Baczynskyj: performing in Uncle Vanya by your side my first year here made taking all of my breadth requirement classes bearable and having you as friends made me value my time here in a whole new way. Singing Russian folk songs with you all on Briar’s rooftop on closing night truly made me feel, for the first time in Toronto that I had found my people. Megan Horsley, Caroline Pisano: a common trauma brought us together, but in the Cue-Tip’s defence, it was so worth it. Our long talks at Hero Burger and study dates kept me as sane as I could possibly be while reading Henry James try to delve into the mind of a 23 year old girl (and failing miserably). To Jonathan Dufour and Mikhael Melnikoff: I am so happy you guys brought me on for All in the Timing” - I’m so glad I was able to work with you guys out of a school setting and discover for myself what fabulous artists you both are. You are both such talented and determined individuals and I’m proud to call you both friends. Nicholas Porteous, Eve Wylden, Yehuda Fisher, Adrian Beattie, Wendy Fox: you guys were a total dream to work with and I wish I could have properly planned that dinner at my place before my dining room table got moved out along with all my kitchen appliances. I hope you’ll look me up if you’re ever in Montreal. Now to the friends who came to join me from Montreal. Grace Gordon: you have been the best theatre buddy and confidante that I could ask for and the only girl I know who can talk about Shakespeare for as long if not longer than I can and still be thrilled about it. Liana Bdéwi: seeing you, however sporadically helped me stay in touch with my fast-talking, Franglais speaking Montreal roots and I know we’ll be seeing each other many more times - you are after all my favourite dim sum buddy and the most fabulous triple threat I know. Last but definitely not least, these girls have never missed an opportunity to make me feel special and this week has been no different. Unbeknownst to me my wonderful friends Shannon TM, Katy L. Breier and Allison Busner, organized a lovely dinner for me and then took me to a bar to drink with all those of my friends that they could round up. I hope that you all know how much I love you all and will miss you like crazy. On the card you made for me (the one that I still haven’t read because I’m saving it for my ultimate cry-fest on the bus today) it says: “A friend is one that knows you as you are, Understands where you’ve been, Accepts what you have become, And still, gently allows you to grow.” I cannot think of a more perfect way to describe what you guys have been to me. As much as I’ve loved to see you guys evolve into the most amazing ladies I know, each of you has (in her own particular way) helped me through a crisis, picked me up when I felt at my lowest and been a source of comfort and happiness when I needed it most. I know that I have lifelong friends in all of you and that this is just a temporary and totally surmountable separation. Thank you so much for making this an awesome last three years. I will definitely be back to visit and who knows what else the future will bring!
