Today, my parents and i carried forth on a series of discussions - TopicsExpress

Today, my parents and i carried forth on a series of discussions weve been having on meeting the standards of an increasingly unaffordable and privileged realm of higher-level schooling. In particular, we confronted the dream Ive had in my back pocket fueling my college studies since entering SLC four years ago. Before we crunched the budgetary numbers and concluded this would attach another massive loan to both their ankles and mine, preventing me from pursuing this further, my dream was to travel and travel internationally if I could afford it. It was my hope to leave the country for the first time and study abroad in a service-intensive course next semester in Sub-Saharan Africa. I understand that the ability in of itself to travel, especially for such great lengths, is an enormous privilege that to even consider is a blessing shared by few including myself but I cant rest comfortably each night knowing that the ways in which I value a SLC progressive education is sickeningly monetized, privatized and has placed a persons starry-eyed dream, for now, well above what his reality can afford. Im sharing my own story not as an effort to gain pity necessarily but to incite and stoke the flames of an anger that seems to be far too complacent and dying when it should be raging- especially when so many cant afford to chase their own dreams of attending college in the first place. So very sorry for the rant but our countrys chronically ill and the American Dream is the bacteria that caused the virus and idk how to even begin to treat the symptoms...
