Today was Mont Royal day, with a drive and a walk for a panoramic view of Montreal. Impressive...but not nearly so much as the nearby MASSIVE LOratoire Saint-Joseph, a basilica whose enormous dome was completed by Father Paul Bellot, an architect, 1937-39. But the pièce de résistance of Canadas largest church is the interior which was the 1949-51 work of architect Gilbert Moreau. Every angle, every view is an inspiration. Found it hard to leave. (Climbed the first 104 steps, but took five long interior escalators to reach the sanctuary.) Footnote: First 3 photos are of the chalet at the Mont Royal lookout point, not the basilica.
