Today was a total success with the 1st Annual Lisas Car Wash. We were few in volunteers but we had a common goal and it was totally achieved. Thank each and everyone that volunteered. We had a blast! Thank you to the Hiawassee Chapter VFW for being a sponsor. Thank you Towns County School System for allowing the event to take place on schools grounds and for supplying the water. The biggest thanks goes to all the wonderful individuals that came to have a vehicle washed or just to give a donation. One older gentleman brought one vehicle and then came back with a second one and gave a donation on both visits. The people that came out today truly showed that they were interested in the community and interested in the special kids of Towns County. The Scott family started this because they knew how much these children meant to their wife and mother. Since starting this tee shirt buying in the memory of Lisa Scott, the school system has saved in the ball park of one thousand dollars each year. One thousand dollars that could be spent elsewhere in the school system. With that being said, today only one Towns County Staff member came to have a car washed, Charles Erwin. There were no teachers, office staff, central office staff, administrators, department heads, or board members that came out to support an event that was to benefit the children in their school system. I am totally surprised that not even the special education department showed up. Imagine how successful it could have been if the school personal had pulled together with the community on this event. The community came together and made the event a total success, I guess I am just saddened and disheartened that the school employees were not involved. It is their loss, because our goal was met......NEW SHIRTS FOR EACH SPECIAL OLYMPIAN FOR THE FALL AND SPRING GAMES!
