Today we remember and honour Nobel Peace Laureate and founding member of the Nobel Women’s Initiative Wangari Muta Maathai, who passed away on this day two years ago. Wangari was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 for her work promoting sustainable development, democracy and peace with the @Green Belt Movement. She was the first African woman to receive this prize. Wangari was a visionary and her legacy of passion, courage, commitment and strength continues to inspire people around the world to make positive change. “I may feel insignificant but I certainly don’t want to be watching as the planet goes down the drain. I will be a hummingbird. I will do the best I can.” Will you be a hummingbird too?
