Todays Gospel is from Mathew 22:34-40 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart…” Father, sometimes I fear I am very far from the kingdom of God. I know how divided my loyalties are, how selfish I can be. And you know it too. That’s what’s so amazing! You know me, and you are still passionately in love with me. This is real love-- real enough to share my human existence, strong enough to die on a cross, extravagant enough to offer me life. Can I really believe in a love so fantastic? I often envy people who feel a strong abiding sense of your love for them. It doesn’t come that easily for me. Help me, Father, to see glimpses of your love. Help me to see it in the people around me who look out for others, who forgive, who respond with compassion and care, who work for peace, who take another’s hand on the worst of days to let them know they are loved. Loving God, you dream of a kingdom where we will love you the way you love us-- with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Help me to see and respond to all the signs of your love. Help me to move a little closer to your kingdom. Amen.
