Todays Health Tip: RECRUIT THE GLUTES! Did you know you can improve your posture, stabilize your knee and hip joints, and relieve low back pain by engaging the glute muscles?! When we use these muscles properly, it will improve health. If we use then improperly (which is often the case), the result can be joint problems and/or overdeveloped and tight hamstrings. There are so many glute strengthening exercises, but I thought Id stick with the basics! Try Supine Bridging. Ive broken is up into a progression. Try flat feet first (keep your heels close to your butt to engage glutes more), then progress to toes up and pushing off heels. I end with showing Supine Bridge with marching. Be sure to keep core engaged during entire exercise. If you feel your back arching, or any lower back pain, reset- engage core to protect low back, and then focus on using and recruiting your glute muscles! Begin with 5 reps each exercise, and progress to 20 reps!
