Todays Word 5th March 2014 March 5, 2014 at 10:15am “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law” (Psalms 119:18) We see King David often admiring the beauty and profundity and the value of the Law of God. Even in the first Psalm he says that blessed is the man whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and on His law he who meditates day and night. That is to say that there is enough matter in the Law of God to meditate day in and day out. There is so much matter that we have to meditate continually throughout the day and night if we should grasp the message of the Law of God. What does David refer to when He uses the term ‘the Law’? During the time of David the first five books was the whole Word of God. It was the whole book of God. The books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy were the whole Bible in those days. The books of the prophets were not yet written and of course the New Testament was not written! So the Word of God which David enjoyed and appreciated was the Pentateuch alone! David says the Pentateuch has enough matter to keep him engaged 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. If the five books are so full of divine message for us, let us consider how much more blessed we are to have 66 books of the Bible. We can never exhaust the message of the Bible. We must meditate the Bible day and night continually. Firstly we must do so because the Word of God is our food for our survival. Secondly the Word of God gives us necessary instructions to help us lead a life which is pleasing to God. Thirdly the Word of God prepares us for the glory which God has kept in store for us. A believer who is filled with the Word of God is always victorious in the spiritual warfare. The devil cannot lead him easily into sin. A believer who is filled with the Word of God will rise up again even if he falls. Let us give the Word of God its rightful place in our lives! Our failure to do so is the root cause for every other spiritual weakness in our lives. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. Amen! Have a blessed day!
