Todays game saw the 12 man Standish away to local rivals - TopicsExpress

Todays game saw the 12 man Standish away to local rivals Shevington on a decent surface to play football on, all be it with cutting wind to contend with. Perhaps Thursdays cold weather training camp (thank you Wendy) helped the Tigers deservedly coming a way with spoils 5 : 2 that they could, and with a better bounce, should have doubled with VAT. Kyle carrying on his run of goal scoring form with two and Josh, who was awarded MOTM, with a hat trick. Brake away goals from Shevington, one in each half, made things look more respectable for the home team. Again it was obvious Stuart the Standish manager had a well formulated game plan and used his interchanges to great effect. A joy to witness the communication, movement and desire seen in training being carried over in to the game. The Tigers got off to a dominant start passing the ball with freedom and making their presence felt at the top on the pitch, squeezing the middle and assured at the back. This was too difficult to deal with for Shevington with Standish 5 : 1 up at half time. The second half had the Tigers playing into the wind and determined not to let the lead slip by going cavalier against a Shevington side who continually let the wind behind them do the passing down field for them. While this paid off with a goal Standish stayed resolute in the belief “If God had meant football to be played in the air he would have put grass in the sky” (thank you Mr Clough). All in all another great team performance that showed character, ability and flexibility throughout-no doubt the Tigers will have the lumps, bumps and bruises to show after some choice encounters but gladly they didnt change the result today.
