Tomorrow morning Ill sign and mail the contract for Twerk: The Game of Spelling Quickly that officially makes me a published game designer (not counting Level Up: The Elevator RPG, on which I was a co-designer with Luke Peterschmidt and Jordan W. Martin). I spent most of the last two weeks working on Realms, an auction/tableau-building game thats a bit like Race For The Galaxy crossed with Medici. I spent most of today working on Gold Rush, a co-design with David that Im really excited about (we started it on Friday, and its already ready to prototype!). Its a simultaneous-play deckbuilder about building up a mining town, prospecting for gold and gemstones, and making luxury goods for townsfolk. I spent most of last year working on The Island, a gorgeous, expansive cooperative game of magic and mystery on a beautiful island. Its gorgeous, and I cant wait for it to exist. (Waitress Games - Phillip Jenné, Brian Fightmaster Neff, Cody Lewis - big project, to go with a number of others!) I also worked a ton on Kings of the Mountain, a cooperative dungeon crawl in a deck of cards. (Also with Waitress Games). Im working as the producer on a half-dozen secret projects as well, some cool stuff that I cant wait to talk about. Also, theres Ticket to Tanks, a ridiculous Americanization of Ticket to Ride that introduces tank combat to a post-apocalyptic 1930s USA. (with Waitress Games and Andrew Christopher Enriquez) I say all that to say this: At some point in the last year, I actually became a game designer. I havent felt this enamored with something since I taught myself guitar in high school. It feels amazing. Thanks to this group of friends for helping me find new goals, and making my dream life a reality! Moreso, thanks to Amy for allowing me to pursue these wonderful things happily and without guilt!
