Tonight, after months of hard work and diligence, the AC4PR - TopicsExpress

Tonight, after months of hard work and diligence, the AC4PR achieved its goal. The SLC BOCC voted 4 to one to withdraw from the Seven50 Regional Plan. The lone dissenter was Paula Lewis, who while she argued that she supports property rights, said she did not see anything in the plans 293 page draft that indicated that the county had to go along with it. The commission chamber was filled to overflowing with county staff moving extra chairs in for latecomers. From approximately 6:10pm until 7:55pm, opponents spoke against the plan. Only four spoke on behalf of the AC4PR, a few spoke for the plan, but the most impressive site was the people we had never seen before who spoke passionately about their great-great-grandparents who were the first to settle in Fort Pierce 150 years ago. It is our opinion that tonights presentation was more of the same dog and pony show that the plans architects are attempting to foist on the residents of the Treasure Coast and South Florida. The thirty minute introduction, with little substantive information, was the same one that the same woman gave to the board a month or so ago. The next two presenters did little to clarify the plan in quantitative ways. Smoke and mirrors! Following this presentation the board had some discussion, each commissioner giving his or her take on the plan. And then they voted to withdraw from the Seven50 Plan! Hallelujah! The reasons they gave for formally withdrawing echoed what the AC4PR had been hoping they would finally understand. That there is no reason to add another planning body to those that already exist and already work. That there is no reason to allow unelected bureaucrats to run our cities, our county and our region, relegating our locally elected officials to the dustbin. I could say a lot more, but we got home at 10:30 and its now midnight. Ill close by quoting a friend, You have to start at the local level if you want to make a difference. Tonight we made a difference. You can watch the reruns on SLCTV, comcast ch 21. It is reality TV of the best sort!
