Tonights album is Diamond life the 1984 début album by Sade & featuring the track Smooth operator Helen Adu was born in Nigeria in 1959. Her father is a Dr. of economics from Nigeria and while in London he met an English nurse and they married and moved to Nigeria but the marriage didnt last and she moved back to the U.K. with her two small children. Helen attended art school as a teenager and joined a jazz band called Pride as a back up singer. She started calling herself Sade which was the suffix of her middle name. Sade is pronounced, sh-a-day. She got attention with her solo performance of Smooth operator & signed with Epic records. Her soulful smooth jazz sound was a big hit. She is still the most successful female British solo performer of all time.
