Traces of Texas reader John Blalock was nice enough to share this nifty mage of his great grandfather, Nat. H. Rector, who lived in Denton county. It was made in 1867 and is one of the oldest photos that I have posted. I like it a lot, but what I REALLY like is the story that accompanied it. Says John: This is a picture of my Great Grandfather Nat H Rector of Denton County, Texas. It was taken in 1867 in Junction City, Kansas when he was 19 years of age. He and other family members had been on a cattle drive up either the Chisolm or Shawnee Trail. They started the drive in Denton and Collin County, Texas. He sold his cattle at the rail head there and bought some new clothes, boots and hat, then had his picture taken. He is buried in the IOOF cemetery in Denton, Texas. The Rector community in Southeast Denton County and Rector Road, South of Sanger, Texas is named for him. Wonderful photo and great account of its origins!
