Train Stories, by Richard Nothing really crazy happened this - TopicsExpress

Train Stories, by Richard Nothing really crazy happened this morning. Its was a pretty average New England train ride ... boring. Although, two women on the train were really nice, for some reason. Its so sad I have to say, for some reason, but Fairfield County travelers arent the most cordial, or nice people, sad to say. Just something I notice. There are two types of people that ride the trains, people that want to be left alone, which are the majority of people, and people that like to talk. The talkative ones are pretty rare, at least with the morning commuters. But because there are so many few people that like to talk, the ones that do, stand out, for better or for worse. So, Im sitting, editing my book, banging away, almost finishing up my next chapter, when I notice this older woman, maybe in her late 50s, sitting rather close to me. Now, the train wasnt packed, full, but not packed, thank God. I was sitting next to the window in a three seat booth, she was at the other end, our bags were in the middle seat. Her bag was leaning against mine, and I noticed that she was kind of laying against the bag, close to me. She was reading a paper and opening the paper up wide, so she can span all the information, presenting it before her like a billboard, part of the paper scraping against the back of my hand. Its funny how cozy people like to get on the train, I love watching the dynamic of who is drawn to who with where people sit, who switches seats, how close people will sit next to another person. I cant tell you how many times Ive seen women, specifically, look as though theyre reading something on their phone, only to take a picture of the guy sitting across from them. Sneak-sneak-sneaky!!! LOL! OMG! I saw this one woman take so many pictures of this guy sitting across from her, you could swear she was having a photo shoot with him. He kind of looked like Clark Kent, Supermans alter ego, so maybe thats why she was so enamored. So this lady sitting next to me gets in close, and for a split second, I thought, wait, thats having a relationship close. Which, was a little too close for me. But then you start going back and forth in your mind, do I pull away? I dont want to offend her. But then I think, screw her, I dont know this nut case, so what if I offend her. But then I think, shit, were on a train, locked in this metal box for the next forty five minutes, the last thing I want to do is piss her off, have her pull out a Taser, and try and zap my ass, chasing me from car to car all the way to Manhattan! But, I did feel sort of awkward, seeing as though she was in My zone. My Zone, meaning my personal space. I just minded my business and kept on with my editing, sooner or later she pulled away, consistently shifting herself in her seat. Who knows, maybe she had to pee. You do everything you can NOT to have to use the trains bathroom, so it might have been that. :-) -Richard
