Transport is one of the factors of cost of production especially in the far remote areas. Many of us small scale farmers can do better if we had our own transport. There are some of us who have broken down trucks , trailers and van. The cost of refurbishing old vehicles is high. I challenged myself when we bought a second hand Mitsubishi Canter to fix it right in our backyard after tolling it from the seller s premises. As you notice in one of pictures, the carrier is an eyesore ; I have just finished working on it 30 minutes ago, it looks as you see it in the other picture. What is the secret? Buy materials at economic cost from whole shops such as shops at west gate in Lusaka. Spraying paint can which cost K 25 in automobile shops; cost K8 at West Gate. The same quality and the same quantity! Reflective taps that cost K25 cost K 9 at West Gate. I have reconditioned the trailer deploying in-house welding labour of CASTECH CIVIL ENGINEERING LTD. With my supervision , our welder has performed to my expectation. I have personally spray painted the truck and Designed the chevron in reflective tap on the truck. A word of caution; do not buy cheap welding rods and steel. You truck will not last. If I have done it you , you can also do it. Good Night!
