Trying out the digital painting capabilities of the Surface Pro - apparently its quite a desired bit of kit for digital artists with 1024 pressure levels and 1080p resolution which is high for a graphics pad. Some of the art programs have different types of brushes, water colour, oil paints, crayons, colour pencils etc and they also mix a bit when you put the paint on a bit like wet paint, I think, anyway looks quite a bit like its been painted. This is - first time Ive painted anything with digital paint and first time for ages done anything like it though did a lot of sketching when I was a child. Its a small lemon tree in case you wondered. Anyway was just to show what its like to use the pen Pen comes with the pad, though digital artists get special artist pens. Though its high resolution and many levels of sensitivity, it doesnt support tilt and rotate, so doesnt make any difference how you hold the pen just its pressure. Plan to program the Tune Smithy Mouse theremin to accept pen and touch so can do multi-touch theremin plus pen with the pressure changing some parameter as well (e.g. tremelo). So will be making musical use of this at some point or other. And meanwhile is kind of fun to do digital sketching and find out how it works .
