Tseries Music (producer) Bhushan Kumar said in an interview that the only thing that made him say yes for Baby was its script. Bhushan either needs to get his eyes tested or brains or at least stop lying. The only lacking element in #Baby is a good (or novel) script. But that does not mean Baby isnt worth a watch. It very well is. Unlike A Wednesday, Neeraj Pandey does not deliver any novelty with Baby. The plot is same India-Pakistan-Terrorism that is already exploited a gazillion times in past. But what makes it worth watching (& enjoying) is an amalgamation of super tight screenplay, stellar performances and a mind blowing direction. Further, this Baby is grand. It spills grandeur & money out of screen in each frame. India, Pakistan, Nepal, Middle East, Turkey - all are exploited. Movie boasts of a huge star cast. Akshay Kumar, Rana Daggubati, Anupam Kher, Danny Danzongappa, Kay Kay Menon, Sushant Singh, Taapsee Pannu, Karan Wahi & Pakistani talent Mikaal Zulfiqar. But the only person who gets some considerable share of screen presence is (of course) Akki. Rest all keep coming and going (apart from Danny, who is a little more consistent than others). All actors give consistent & stellar performances. The person to impress specially is Mikaal who is not only good to look at but is also a great actor. Akshay looks of his age and does convincingly well on getting stabbed. Another plus in the movie is consistently unfolding of events and pacy thrill at every corner - in fact, that is what makes it worth watchable. Film is slightly slow prior to intermission (which happens very quickly thankfully) but picks up pace in second half. Thankfully, movie has no song to disrupt the speed and pace. Baby showcases our own covert operations in Nepal & ME like the US of A did for Osama. It shows a character clearly resembling Hafiz Muhammad Saeed as a terror outfit leader. The way it openly blames Hafiz & Pakistan for terror, no surprises that #Pakistan banned it for any screening. As a matter of fact, #Muslims community may find couple of scenes very objectionable - Shaving a Maulanas beard or Muslim writing their religion as Muslim but Hindus as Indian can be objectionable. Such instances make you wonder if the film would have passed Censor Board of India if it was not a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Govt in center. There are also some unbelievably silly sequences - the biggest being how they manage to transfer Maulana to #India. The movie however fills you with complete patriotism from start to finish. You would listen audience clapping and whistling each time our Indian Baby Squad kills or defeats a Pakistani terrorist. & yes, those shots deserve these whistles & claps. You would also not be able to stop your gags at Anupam Kher hillarious mute lip syncs. His dialogues & delivery are super funny yet convincing. As a final verdict, Baby is definitely worth a watch. It is not a masterpiece but not worth a miss as well. Go, celebrate patriotism. Republic Day is anyways around the corner. My rating: 3.5/5. Stay tuned for the Dolly Ki Doli review with Sonam Kapoor, Rajkumar rao, Pulkit Samrat. Meanwhile, please do share the post and help us sustain the page you love so much!
