Tuesday Night Update: Local media is trimming back amounts for tomorrows storm. Im just not seeing enough data to trend to a warmer solution (more mix, lesser snow amounts). Temperatures have dropped significantly since 5pm. In fact, theyve dropped 2 degrees in just the past 30 mins. What does this mean? Well with clear skies and calm winds, thats a recipe for a cold night. The colder the air in place when the storm arrives the less chance there is for the more mix solution many of you have probably seen or heard about. Since the very first glimse of this storm, Ive had an amount range in mind. Now, with several days since then and agreement in the data, I can share that range with all of you. 8-12. That range factors in storm intensity, little if any mixing, and the temperatures in all levels of the atmosphere. Also, many media maps have been showing elevational influence in snow totals. Again, Im not seeing enough data to make a call on whether Worthington will see more than Westfield. At this time, my range sticks for everyone in Western MA. Keep in mind this is all subject to change and the amounts have been all over the place on TV and the web from daybreak to current. Dan believes 6-10. Hes thinking a bit more mixing. One thing nobody can deny is how fast temperatures have dropped tonight and the colder it is...the lighter density of the snow thus higher amounts. I saw a temperature map of Westfield earlier tonight that forecasted overnight lows in the 40s. So, we are already quite a bit below that. Im trending colder and snowier. Whats happening outside real-time speaks louder than any computer model. Youll get a final call snowfall amount tomorrow morning as we let all the data come in overnight as the storm takes shape off the Mid-Atlantic coastline tonight. Stay tuned and we thank you all for 10,000 likes!
