Tuesday, November 18, 2014 Lied zur Gesellenreise by Wolfgang Mozart This quarters music appreciation class was on Mozart, and I explored some new (for me) songs to sing at the beginning of the class. I chose this one to sing when we discussed Die Entführing aus dem Serail because they were written around the same time. It was then that I discovered that it has two sets of lyrics, the original being a Masonic poem that Mozart set for the occasion of his fathers advancement to the degree of Journeyman in 1785. By the time a complete edition of Mozarts works was being collected, in 1799, Masonry had been banned in Austria, so the words were rewritten by Daniel Jäger. https://youtube/watch?v=MwsWQerNGjo Masonic text at: recmusic.org/lieder/get_text.html?TextId=13242 Lower voice score with later text at conquest.imslp.info/files/imglnks/usimg/9/9e/IMSLP115742-PMLP99642-Mozart_-_Lebensreise_MV_rsl.pdf
