Two NSPCA Wildlife Protection Unit Inspectors and a Rustenburg SPCA Inspector assisted the North West Nature Conservation (NW DEDECT) this weekend with an undercover sting operation on the Roads to Sun City where illegal sale of chameleons and tortoises is rife. 9 tortoises and 2 chameleons were rescued, and two people were arrested (one of which is a repeat offender). Numerous tortoises were found stashed in the bushes alongside the road, ensuring a steady supply of animals for the public that buy them. Please DO NOT BUY these animals, by buying them you are encouraging the trade and ensuring that more animals will be stolen from the wild. Please help us by spreading the word and educating your friends not to buy animals from road side sellers.
