Two Parisien men dined with us the evening at Aubergine and it became apparent very quickly that they spoke very little English. Though my formal French studies ended 20+ years ago I put on my thinking beret and managed to explain the wine list, our two menus, sell some Hokkaido grade A5 wagyu and describe each course en français. They were très VIP, the brothers of YANNICK ALLENO OFFICIEL, of 3 Michelin star, Le Meurice and a gazillion other restaurant across Asia and the Middle East. All synapses are fried after switching back and forth between English and French and explaining abalone farming, strawberry snow and the difference between Hokkaido wagyu and Niman Ranch ribeye (a little beyond what I learned from a talking pineapple in French in Action), but somehow I pulled it off #jesuismalàlatête
