Two Ribbon Cutting Celebrations Today, March 26, 2014 Coffee, Bakery and South Philly Style Hoagies are coming to Woodbury WOODBURY, NJ---ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 2014, WOODBURY’S MAYOR BILL VOLK AND COUNCILMEMBERS WILL WELCOME TWO MORE BUSINESSES TO THE CITY. AT 4 PM A RIBBON CUTTING WILL BE HELD AT 53 S BROAD STREET, WHERE A “THE COFFEE SHOP” AND “LEVISI’S BAKERY WILL BE SHARING SPACE WITH A TASTE OF PHILLY PRETZEL. THEN AT 5 PM, GUESTS ARE WELCOME TO TRAVEL TO 132 E RED BANK AVENUE TO CELEBRATE THE GRAND OPENING OF FAT LOUIE’S, WHO IS TAKING OVER THE SPACE OF THE FORMER A & M DELI, AND WILL FEATURE SOUTH PHILLY STYLE HOAGIES. According to Mayor Volk, “I think people are starting to realize that Woodbury is a great place to open a business. With Inspira, the County offices and access to 295, it is a perfect location.” Roberta Hare and her son John agree with the Mayor and are partnering with A Taste of Philly Pretzel owner Mark Rossi to add a new twist to the S Broad Street location. Rossi traditionally sells the Philly brand pretzel along with some coffee and refreshments. Hare and her son will be renting kitchen space from Rossi to bake their hand crafted cookies and pastries under the auspice of Levisi’s Bakery and work the front retail portion of the store as partners with Rossi to operate “The Coffee Shop”. Roberta Hare states, “We keep with tradition. All our pastries and cookies are hand-made---no short cuts, no preservatives, only using the finest ingredients, which is reflected in the quality of our products and what makes us successful.” Still baking and selling a wide variety of freshly baked pretzels, including Rossi’s now famous signature Pickle Nickel Pretzel, A Taste of Philly Pretzel and The Coffee Shop will also feature fresh brewed coffees and teas, supplied by Mullica Hill’s own Crescent Moon Coffee Company, along with Levisi’s famous biscotti, pastries, soups and fresh made sandwiches. Hare continues, “Born in what was Underwood Hospital, Dr. Underwood doing the honors, Woodbury was considered one of my family’s favorite destinations when I was a child. Being part of Woodbury’s revitalization was an opportunity that could not be missed.” The combined businesses of A Taste of Philly Pretzel and The Coffee Shop will be opened Monday-Friday from 7 am to 6 pm, Saturdays from 8 am to 3 pm. And now with two locations, Blackwood and Woodbury, Ray Mackay is making his mark in South Jersey with Fat Louie’s opening on 132 E Red Bank Avenue bringing his signature Philly style sandwiches to the City. In January 2012, Mackay purchased Lucia’s Deli in Blackwood which was a mainstay in that community for 12 years. Then in December 2012, Mackay changed the name to Fat Louie’s but kept Lucia’s menu and suppliers which include bread from Liscio’s Bakery and deli meats from Thumann, which he credits to his continued success. A Rutgers University graduate with a degree in business management, Mackay saw a great opportunity in Woodbury when A & M Deli closed down. According to Mackay, “It was almost the same situation as I had in Blackwood. I am able to fill in the space of a reputable eatery so I have an established customer base. All I have to do is supply great quality food, which I have no problem doing. Fat Louie’s has honorably carried on the Lucia Deli reputation that I can now share here in Woodbury.” Fat Louie’s serves over 50 Italian specialty sandwiches ranging from the popular Italian hoagie to chicken cutlet hoagies with provolone and broccoli rabe to the Italian diavlo—a spicy hoagie made with hot sopressata ham and spicy capicola. All his cheesesteaks are made from fresh sliced steak, not frozen. They have 46 varieties of hoagies, plus party trays and fresh made sides like pepper shooters, macaroni salad, coleslaw, potato salad, marinated roasted peppers, and other Italian deli sides. In addition, there are “no meat” hoagies, as well, including Lucia’s Italian—a hoagie filled with Italian tuna, roasted peppers, black olives and sharp provolone—and Lu Lu’s Veggie—a vegetarian sandwich with eggplant, provolone, roasted peppers and broccoli rabe. Hoagies are available in three sizes: small, which is six inches; regular, which is 10 inches; and large, which is made on a whole loaf of Italian bread and is two feet long. Mayor Volk adds, “What is really nice to see is that so many family based businesses are finding a home here in Woodbury. I wish these two new businesses the best of luck and hope that the residents of Woodbury and Gloucester County help to support these businesses and remember to keep Shopping Local!”
