Two girls and a boy Sajida, a visually challenged girl after passing her intermediate with very high hopes applied for admission to a prestigious university of Lahore. She was very happy and excited to join her new ba classes. She wanted to become a psychologist but she was shocked when on first day her professor of psychology did not allow her to sit in the class. “It is impossible for a blind to study psychology. Go to the office and change your subject. I have not seen a blind student studying this subject in my life. “I shall not be creating any problem for you my dear madam. Please let me study this subject. I want to become a psychologist.” The teacher was not convinced so the girl had to get her subject changed with the broken heart. On the other hand during the same session Hajra another visually challenged got admission in other university and elected psychology as subject. Her teacher of psychology made her first interaction with Hajra thus, “Hajra! Come to my office after the class and tell if you are foreseeing any problems or difficulties while studying here” it was the result of teacher’s cooperation that within few days Hajra became famous as a brilliant and active participant of her class. Hajra did her masters in the subject of her choice and Sajida remained unsuccessful in doing so. In another instance a boy applied for admission to Mphil applied linguistics in a reputable university. The head of English department did not accept his application by saying that it was impossible for a visually impaired person to do MPhil in applied linguistics in Pakistan. The boy was really hurt and got admission in other degree. Right in the next semester the head of English department left the university and another blind student applied for the admission to Mphil degree. His application was accepted by the new HOD and he completed the degree without any hurdle. Don’t you think that two professors have ruined the lives of a girl and a boy? Don’t you think that two professors have given new lives to two visually challenged students by just allowing them to sit in the class? Do you hope the situation will change some day? Will you like to join the group of facilitators or destructors as teachers?
