Two questions: is it possible (as an award nominee) to examine - TopicsExpress

Two questions: is it possible (as an award nominee) to examine aspects of the award process, without critiquing the winners? Likewise, is it possible to comment on the vagaries of the process, given human nature, without coming off like a "sour grapes" man? I know no award process will ever be perfect. My personal policy has been to *never* factor awards into my career plan. They are happy accidents. Even the nominations. But having seen some of the processes (for science fiction) up close and personal, I do have to scratch my head at a few things. Can I do that without seeming petty? Is silence (as far as the process goes) the only publicly acceptable recourse?
