Two years ago today CM Punk defeated John Cena to win his first WWE Championship in front of his hometown crowd in Chicago. A match that is considered a modern classic wasn’t without controversy, however. CM Punk’s contract was to expire at midnight, and he promised the world he would leave the WWE with the most prestigious championship in the business. Mr. McMahon was desperate to stop him, even ordering John Laurinaitis to ring the bell while Cena had the STF locked on in another one of McMahon’s famous screwjobs. Cena himself would not allow this, going as far to knock Laurinaitis out. When he slid back into the ring, CM Punk was waiting, and he nailed the GTS to capture the title. McMahon called for Alberto Del Rio to cash in his Money in the Bank contract, but Punk quickly disposed of him with a swift kick to the skull. Punk made an exit through the crowd, blowing McMahon a kiss goodbye. BEST MATCH EVER !
