Tyler Rose HM race recap: I LOVE RUNNING IN OCTOBER!! Tyler is a great town known for its rose gardens. Its a two hour drive for me so the Mr and I loaded up the car at 4am and headed east. I could not have asked for better weather than this morning. Low of 60 with a light breeze and when the sun came up it felt so good to have it beating on my face. God is so great to have blessed us with His morning beauty. My race started on time at 8am. A half mile into the race there was a freight train passing on the course. Ugh! But it passed quick enough that I did not have to stop and wait. I did hear a few choice and funny words from the other runners. Hills and inclines galore! If you have this race on your radar be prepared to tackle them hills. Thank God Ive been cross training my lower body bec it helped me conquer all but one, the last one I walked half way. The course was very scenic and very shaded. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and the hills did not bother me too much. Although I was yelling Holy crap and Mother of crap a few times to get through the last few steps of certain hills. The weather was still pleasant and did not warm up too bad. However, there were so many turns through the neighborhoods it felt like I was running in circles. Whoever made up the course was very strategic to make sure the runners were not running head on to other runners. The race ended in the Rose Garden. Acres of roses, colorful flower beds and beautiful walking paths through the garden. The city of Tyler and its volunteers offered PHENOMENAL support at every turn and at every aid station. The post race swag was skimpy, but what a WONDERFUL race overall. This also concludes my Four Seasons Challenge with Mellew Productions. There are many pros and cons with this race company but Ive had a good experience. I received another medal and two more race shirts. Cha-ching! Did I mention I got new shoes?? I am in-love with my Suacony Ride 7s! I broke the cardinal rule of nothing new on race day and ran in brand new shoes. I could not have been more pleased!! My feet were SO HAPPY!! I had previously ran in a demo pair of these shoes so I knew what to expect. I did meet up with some other runner friends like Jennifer with Pretending2Run, Jessica with Half Fanatics and Eric with Red Fox Running. So todays official race chip time was 2:15:06 but my Nike app time was 2:09:56. My official race PR time is 2:10 set in 9/2013 but Im gonna say my PB time is 2:09. Would you do the same?
