Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines Amanpulo’s Pamalican Island - TopicsExpress

Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines Amanpulo’s Pamalican Island was in the direct path of this powerful typhoon. We are thankful to report that General Manager Tapa Tibble and his family and team remained on property and kept safe throughout. We are also relieved to report that the nearby island of Manamoc, where most of the Amanpulo staff and their families live, experienced no injuries or loss of life. The villagers on the coast were evacuated to an elementary school structure completed just last week by the Andres Soriano Foundation. This structure provided a secure refuge throughout the storm. The Barangay Council initiated the clearing of roads, removing fallen trees and debris, after the storm passed. This clear up was completed the following day, allowing the island to quickly recover from the onslaught. We have been very fortunate at Amanpulo, and the initial assessment is that all structures with the exception of the Beach Club are in sound condition. Debris and damaged trees will soon be cleared and a more detailed assessment is currently taking place. All landline and internet communications are down, and cell phone communication is very limited. Due to this being a countrywide crisis, we cannot offer any indication as to when communications will return to normal. The resort’s runway experienced no damage and the hangar is currently being used as a Relief Operation Centre. We are assisting the Andres Soriano Foundation in reaching out to those in the Quiniluban Group of islands needing medical aid, and sending supplies to families whose source of livelihood has been severely affected. In view of the current situation, we estimate that Amanpulo will remain closed until November 25th. We will continue to review the situation and our re-opening date, and keep you updated on further developments. Thank you for your understanding.
