Typical 6 y/o Behavior? Hi! I have a question about typical 6-year old behavior. I ask because I am not sure my sons behavior is typical. To begin with, he has a genetic condition called NF1 and he does have several benign brain tumors which we monitor and follow up with a Neuro-oncologist with every 3 months. My sons behavior is a major concern especially with the tumors. Also, he could have other problems besides the NF1, but we are not sure. So here it goes. He is 6. At night, every night, he gets into this mood with uncontrollable laughter, outrageous behavior and is quite out of control. If it is bath night, it is worse, so baths are not soothing. He goes to bed rather early - between 7:30 and 8. We have a routine. He also gets up between 5 and 6 every morning raring to go. During the day he can be OK, but sometimes is so defiant and grumpy, we cant say or do anything right. Sometimes at night he wakes up and laughs uncontrollably. This laugh is not his normal happy laugh. It is almost manic and I think a little frightening. He has never been a good sleeper and sleeping through the night is rare. He never sleeps late even if we keep him up later or he wakes up in one of his laughing moods - he never falls asleep after that. He is only 6. Could this be the tumor? Could this be bipolar? Does anyone have experience with this in a child so young? Or is this typical behavior? He is our only child so we have nothing to compare it to.
